Ο ερωτισμός που υπερχείλιζε επέστρεφε στην αποστροφή για την τρέχουσα πολιτική, η εξουσία συναντούσε την απόγνωση.
Εξυπνα, δημιούργησε ένα ακόμα τρικ: ο ντόρος ήδη από τις πρώτες συνεντεύξεις είχε γίνει γύρω από τα ονόματα των πρωταγωνιστών, κυρίως του Κώστα Κόκλα και του Πάνου Μουζουράκη, τηλεοπτικών και όχι μόνο αστέρων. Και όμως ο Ρήγος μαγικά, χωρίς να μικρύνει τους ρόλους ή τη φόρμα, έκανε πρωταγωνιστή τον Χορό. Τους Ιππείς του, πλάσματα μυθικά αλλά και με μια επείγουσα θνητότητα, σώματα και θώρακες παλλόμενοι καθώς καταγγέλλουν πολιτικούς και κατεστημένα διεφθαρμένα, πριν παρασυρθούν και αυτά σε προσωπικές επιδιώξεις, γευόμενα την εξουσία και μαζί την εξάρτησή τους από τον Δήμο και τον εκάστοτε κυβερνόντα. Κανένα αστέρι δεν είναι μεγαλύτερο από τους ίδιους τους Ιππείς, στο τέλος.
Η δύναμη της (θεατρικής) φύσης Στεφανία Γουλιώτη
Η τομή που έκανε ο Ρήγος με την παράσταση «Ιππείς» ήταν αυτή: η συγκρότηση ενός Χορού πρωταγωνιστή, ενός δαιμονίου αεικίνητου που ήταν ταυτόχρονα η συνείδηση και η σκέψη των θεατών, το κεντρί του Αριστοφάνη, η ξεφτισμένη πραγματικότητα που σε κάνει να πονάς και μαζί να καγχάζεις. Ενας χορός ανδρών φυσικά όπως όριζε ο Αριστοφάνης, που όμως είχε μέσα του μία γυναίκα ηθοποιό, τη Στεφανία Γουλιώτη. Μια δύναμη της φύσης, σπουδαία καλλιτέχνης, πλήρης, με τις ερμηνευτικές της δυνατότητες σε κάθε παράσταση να αποκαλύπτονται όλο και περισσότερο και το σώμα της να δημιουργεί ολόκληρους παράλληλους διαλόγους. Διότι ο Ρήγος, μέσα σε αυτή τη φορτισμένη ιστορική στιγμή των γυναικοκτονιών και του MeToo, δεν θα μπορούσε να μείνει αμέτοχος, να μη φέρει μια γυναίκα μέσα στην καρδιά των ιππέων. Και να κάνει τη φωνή της, τη φωνή που επιμένει να υψώνεται όσο και αν κάποιοι προσπαθούν να την κοντύνουν ή και να την εξαφανίσουν. Τη φωνή της γυναίκας.

Ποιος είναι ο τρόπος να ανεβάζεις λοιπόν, σήμερα, Αριστοφάνη; Νομίζω αυτός που είδαμε στους Ιππείς. Ο τόσο όσο αιρετικός, ο τόσο όσο πέραν του κειμένου, με ατάκες και κλεισίματα του ματιού σε σημερινά γεγονότα διαρκώς. Ούτε βλάσφημο, ούτε ερήμην, ούτε αποστειρωμένα. Ο Κωνσταντίνος Ρήγος, αυτό το καλοκαίρι που όλα γύρω μας και μέσα μας βάρυναν αφόρητα το κατάφερε. Ενεργοποίησε τη μαγική λειτουργία του θεάτρου που τόσο μας έλειψε και που τώρα έρχεται θεραπευτικά να μας αναλάβει, να μας περιθάλψει να μας ενεργοποιήσει.
Κρατώ διαρκώς, μέρες μετά, τον θυμό, τον πληγωμένο θυμό της Στεφανίας Γουλιώτη. Με τα χέρια ανοιχτά, φλέβες να πετάγονται στον λαιμό, το κεφάλι ψηλά προκαλεί τους θεούς. Την Αθηνά και όλους τους άλλους, τους προαιώνιους και τους σύγχρονους επειδή ποτέ δεν έχουν εμφανιστεί. Και ας τους έχουμε επικαλεστεί, τους έχουμε καλέσει τόσες φορές -εγώ η ίδια τόσες φορές πάνω στη σκηνή. Η Καραμπέτη, η Κονιόρδου, η Φωτοπούλου, όπως λέει η Γουλιώτη. Μια πρόκληση προς τον ουρανό. Με τη σιωπή να πέφτει πάνω στην Πειραιώς και το ερώτημα να απαντιέται μέσα σε αυτή τη σιωπή από όλους μας. Τη μετάφραση του έργου έκανε ο Σωτήρης Κακίσης, τη μουσική υπογράφει ο Θοδωρής Ρέγκλης, τα κοστούμια η Μαίρη Τσαγκάρη, τα κοστούμια η Νατάσσα Δημητρίου. Βοηθός σκηνοθέτη είναι ο Αγγελος Παναγόπουλος και βοηθός χορογράφου η Μαρκέλλα Μανωλιάδη. Ο Κωνσταντίνος Ρήγος υπογράφει τη σκηνοθεσία, τη χορογραφία και τα σκηνικά.
