ΑΦΙΕΡΩΜΑ ΣΤΗ ΜΝΗΜΗ ΤΟΥ ΠΡΟΔΡΟΜΟΥ ΜΠΟΔΟΣΑΚΗ

Τέτοιες  μέρες  του 1979, έφυγε ένας από τους μεγαλύτερους επιχειρηματίες της χώρας, (μακάρι να είχαμε σήμερα πέντε-έξι σαν κι’ αυτόν για να ανοίξουν δουλειές που τόσο πολύ τις έχουμε ανάγκη…) και διαμορφωτής ταυτόχρονα της αμυντικής βιομηχανίας σύμφωνα με τις σύγχρονες αντιλήψεις.  Πρόκειται για τον Πρόδρομο Μποδοσάκη – Αθανασιάδη, ενός από τους πλέον σημαντικούς παράγοντες της Ελληνικής βιομηχανίας στον 20ο αιώνα, ένας άνθρωπος με πολλές βιομηχανίες  που  έδινε εργασία σε περίπου 17.000 εργαζόμενους.

Γεννήθηκε το 1891 στη Νίγδη της Μικράς Ασίας από  τον Θωμά και τη Δέσποινα Αθανασιάδου. Οι γονείς του ήταν πτωχοί αγρότες. Τα τουρκάκια της γειτονιάς αδυνατώντας να προφέρουν το όνομά του τον φώναζαν Μποντό, και από εκεί κόλλησε το Μποδοσάκης….

Λόγω φτώχειας σε ηλικία 10 ετών εγκατέλειψε το σχολείο και μετακόμισε στα Άδανα για να δουλέψει, μεταφέροντας ψώνια πελατών από τα μαγαζιά στα σπίτια. Με τις οικονομίες οχτώ χρόνων κατάφερε να αγοράσει στα 18 του έναν αλευρόμυλο. Το 1919 γνώρισε τον Ελευθέριο Βενιζέλο και με την προτροπή του αγόρασε το ξενοδοχείο Πέρα Παλλάς στην Κωνσταντινούπολη το οποίο διέθεσε για την Μικρασιατική Εκστρατεία.

Κατά την Μικρασιατική καταστροφή το 1922, εγκατέλειψε την τεράστια περιουσία του στην Κωνσταντινούπολη κι έφυγε στην Αθήνα όπου και ασχολήθηκε με το εμπόριο. Η πιο σημαντική από τις επιχειρήσεις του ήταν το “Ελληνικόν Πυριτιδοποιείον – Καλυκοποιείον” (ΠΥΡ-ΚΑΛ) στο Αιγάλεω.

Ο Μποδοσάκης μετά από σκληρή διαπραγμάτευση αναλαμβάνει το εργοστάσιο στις αρχές του 1934 και η Εθνική Τράπεζα μεταβιβάζει την κυριότητα των μετοχών της στην ΠΥΡ-ΚΑΛ τις οποίες όμως κρατεί ως ενέχυρο για να χρηματοδοτήσει την εταιρία, ώστε να γίνουν οι αναγκαίες επενδύσεις και νε εκσυγχρονιστεί ο εξοπλισμός της. Μέσα σε μικρό χρονικό διάστημα αντικαταστάθηκε όλο το παλαιό υλικό με νέο, ενώ αυξήθηκε η παραγωγή του για να καλυφθούν πρωτίστως οι ανάγκες του Ελληνικού Στρατού.

Η πρώτη περίοδος λειτουργίας της εταιρείας μέχρι την έναρξη του Β΄ ΠΠ υπήρξε κερδοφόρα, δεδομένου ότι όλες οι ευρωπαϊκές χώρες είχαν αρχίσει τις πολεμικές προετοιμασίες και η ζήτηση για πολεμικό υλικό ήταν ιδιαίτερα αυξημένη. Πολύ σημαντικές εξαγωγές πραγματοποιήθηκαν προς την Ευρώπη, ενώ σε σύντομο χρονικό διάστημα η ΠΥΡΚΑΛ είχε μετεξελιχτεί στο μεγαλύτερο εργοστάσιο πυρομαχικών στα Βαλκάνια και στη Μ. Ανατολή.

Στην Ελλάδα όμως κύκλοι εντός των Ενόπλων Δυνάμεων αμφισβητούσαν την ποιότητα των προϊόντων ης ΠΥΡ-ΚΑΛ και συχνά μεθόδευαν προμήθειες πυρομαχικών από το εξωτερικό, παρά την αναγνωρισμένη διεθνώς ποιότητα των προϊόντων της εταιρίας. Ο Μποδοσάκης όμως δεν άφησε τη βιομηχανία να υπολειτουργεί. Συνέχισε την παραγωγή με εντατικούς ρυθμούς, δημιουργώντας ψηλά αποθέματα που αποδείχθηκαν σωτήρια όταν ξέσπασε ο ελληνοϊταλικός πόλεμος, οπότε φάνηκε πόσο σωστή ήταν η πρωτοβουλία του. Με την έναρξη του Β’ΠΠ ο Μποδοσάκης αύξησε την παραγωγή της ΠΥΡ-ΚΑΛ για να καλύψει τις ανάγκες ενόψει της επικείμενης εμπλοκής της Ελλάδος στον πόλεμο.  Έτσι καθ’ όλην την διάρκεια του πολέμου ο ΕΣ δεν αισθάνθηκε την έλλειψη πολεμοφοδίων. Ένα μεγάλο μέρος των πολεμοφοδίων αυτών ο Μποδοσάκης τα χορήγησε υπό μορφή δωρεάς στο Κράτος.

Στις αρχές του 1941, όταν πλέον η γερμανική εισβολή ήταν προ των θυρών, ο Μποδοσάκης ζητούσε επίμονα από την Κυβέρνηση να φυγαδεύσει τον εξοπλισμό της ΠΥΡ-ΚΑΛ στη Μέση Ανατολή, προκειμένου να μην πέσει στα χέρια των Γερμανών. Η έγκριση δόθηκε όταν πια ήταν πολύ αργά… Κατά την περίοδο της Κατοχής οι εγκαταστάσεις της πέρασαν στα χέρια των Γερμανών, που τις βρήκαν άθικτες, καθώς τα σχέδια απομάκρυνσης του εξοπλισμού και ανατίναξής τους δεν υλοποιήθηκαν. Οι Γερμανοί ωστόσο δεν απέτυχαν στο ανάλογο δικό τους σχέδιο και φεύγοντας από την Ελλάδα άφησαν τα εργοστάσιο της ΠΥΡΚΑΛ σε ερείπια. Έσπευσαν να απογυμνώσουν το εργοστάσιο από τον εξοπλισμό και τα μηχανήματά του και να μεταφέρουν τα πάντα στη Γερμανία, ενώ ο Μποδοσάκης διέφυγε στις ΗΠΑ για να επιστρέψει στην Ελλάδα το 1945. Τότε άρχισε να ανασυγκροτεί τις διαλυμένες επιχειρήσεις και κυρίως την ΠΥΡ-ΚΑΛ. Έτσι η άλλοτε μεγαλύτερη βιομηχανία της Ανατολικής Μεσογείου και Μέσης Ανατολής έπρεπε να ξεκινήσει από το μηδέν.

Αρχικά ασχολήθηκε με την παραγωγή μεταλλικών ειδών και καταναλωτικών προϊόντων. Με την είσοδο της Ελλάδας στο ΝΑΤΟ το 1951, χάρη στις συνεχόμενες παραγγελίες του ΝΑΤΟ και την προτροπή του Παπάγου, ο Μποδοσάκης πραγματοποίησε μεγάλη επένδυση εκσυγχρονισμού της βιομηχανίας, που ολοκληρώθηκε το 1954. Έτσι σύντομα η εταιρεία αναγεννήθηκε στην παλιά της αίγλη χάρη σε μια σειρά από παραγγελίες του Ελληνικού Στρατού, του ΝΑΤΟ και παραδόξως της Δυτικής Γερμανίας. Στις επόμενες δύο δεκαετίες η ΠΥΡ-ΚΑΛ αναγεννήθηκε και προόδευσε, δημιουργώντας νέες εγκαταστάσεις και αναπτύσσοντας νέα προϊόντα.

Ωστόσο, η τελευταία περίοδος για την ΠΥΡ-ΚΑΛ δεν είχε την αναμενόμενη ευτυχή έκβαση διότι η Ελλάδα ήταν πλέον δέσμια του κλίματος του Ψυχρού Πολέμου, οπότε και η πολιτεία φαίνεται ότι δεν είχε πλέον τη δυνατότητα ελεύθερων επιλογών όσον αφορά την αγορά και πώληση πολεμικού υλικού… Εξ’ άλλου, ο κρατικός παρεμβατισμός ήταν έντονος, γιατί το κράτος ανέκαθεν εκδήλωνε την πρόθεση να θέσει υπό τον απόλυτο έλεγχό του την πολεμική βιομηχανία της χώρας. Τελικά, μετά από μια δύσκολη πορεία, η ΠΥΡ-ΚΑΛ κρατικοποιήθηκε το 1982.

Ως μέγας οραματιστής, η προσφορά του Προδρόμου Μποδοσάκη στην κοινωνία και τον άνθρωπο, ήταν μεγάλη, όπως τα φιλανθρωπικά και φιλεκπαιδευτικά έργα, υποτροφίες σπουδαστών, επιμόρφωση στελεχών στην βιομηχανική διοίκηση, ενώ σύστησε Ίδρυμα στο οποίο κληροδότησε την περιουσία του.

Στη διαθήκη του (Ιούλιος 1978) ο  επιχειρηματίας έγραψε,  με το σταυρό στο χέρι:  «Καταλείπω εις το Ίδρυμα ως ηθικήν κληρονομίαν τας κάτωθι αρχάς : α) Ορθόδοξος  χριστιανική Θρησκεία, Ελληνική Πατρίς, ατομική ελευθερία. β) Εργασία. Τίποτα δεν γίνεται χωρίς εργασίαν ήτις δημιουργεί και δίδει περιεχόμενον εις την ζωήν… γ) Τιμιότης. Είναι τόσον πολύτιμος και απαραίτητος ώστε η συμμόρφωσίς της προς αυτήν πρέπει να πληρώνεται με θυσίας. δ) Καλοσύνη. Είναι η πλέον χαρακτηριστική ιδιότης των ανθρώπων, η οποία τους πλησιάζει προς τον Θεόν και τους χαρίζει την πραγματικήν ευτυχίαν…»
